FAST FOOD: Creating delicious and nutritious recipes for pups and pawrents, made quick and easy

Pupsicles

Pupsicles are a fun and easy recipe you can make for your pups all year round as a special treat and an easy way to add hydration. By utilizing water, broths, and/or coconut water, pups benefit from added hydration to a special treat that can be made as unique as they are!

Here is the basic recipe for pupsicles:

· Choose a liquid

· Choose a flavor profile your pup enjoys

· Consider your nutrition goals for your pup

and what you can add to support those goals

· Add texture and variety

Here are some options of things you might add to your pupsicles:

Liquids:

o Chicken/ beef/ vegetable broth (no sodium added/ low sodium)

o Coconut water

o Kefir

o Goats Milk

o Water (filtered; we love the Berkey system to filter everything from pharmaceuticals to fluoride out of our precious drinking water. Add a tiny pinch of naturally mined Pink Himalayan Sea Salt to add back in necessary minerals for optimal absorption of water.)

Flavor Options:

o Tuna

o Sardines

o Beef/ Lamb/ Chicken Liver

o Residual treat crumbs in the bottom of treat packages; (we especially love freeze dried treats for this reason!)

Texture and Added Nutrition:

o 100% pure canned pumpkin

o Unsweetened applesauce

o Blueberries

o Chia Seeds

o Coconut Oil (a little goes a long way!)

o Cucumber

o Carrots

o Cottage Cheese

Keep in mind that snacks, both for enjoyment as well as when utilized as rewards during training can either add to and support your nutrition goals for your pup, or it can be a detriment to your nutrition goals for them. The same holds true in human diets. It is very different if we and our pup are snacking on things like blueberries, cucumber, carrots, and seeds versus highly processed cookies, cakes, and other things that come in packages.

The more ingredients you can incorporate into both your and their diet that are whole, unprocessed foods, the more opportunities you have to add nutrition, wellness, and vitality to both of your lives.

Some considerations as you proceed expanding you and your pup’s nutrition:

· If we don’t feel our best, we cannot be our best. This is true for both pup’s and pawrents, and so if your pup is struggling with behavioral challenges, emotional regulation, or allergies, let’s look at their nutrition first! For humans manifesting with both physical and mental health challenges, a lot can be done nutritionally as well. It all starts in the gut.

· In order to feel our best, we must consider how we are fueling ourselves.

· Nutrition and lifestyle choices are an investment into wellness and vitality, for the present and the future.

· We are 100% responsible for our pup’s nutrition, lifestyle, and experience. This can be immensely empowering and an easy way to feel a sense of control in our lives when we start making changes to help them be their best selves. These changes can range from simple tweaks like adding broth or water to your pup’s kibble and allowing it to soak and rehydrate to aid in digestion to completely overhauling their diet with fresh foods and so much in between! If you’re not sure where to start, keep coming back and learning with us OR set up a wellness consultation to create a plan for the pups and pawrents in your household to be their best feeling selves.
